Introduction: Overview and Goals.
This site is about the journey we started to get high quality coffee beans grown in a greenhouse.
It is an engineering project as a hobby and labor of love. It is as much about the process and methods/materials to grow coffee as it is about the coffee itself. It is also an educational project for myself (and hopefully others).
The intention is to have a hobby farm with a small greenhouse and be able to create enough coffee to supply myself with coffee for the year that meets my standard for high quality coffee in a cup.
The goals are:
Grow healthy coffee plants that develop high quality beans in a greenhouse
Use well designed greenhouse to minimize the impact on the planet
Learn and develop optimal roasting technique specifically for our beans
Use engineering principles and technology to accomplish the first three goals!
Assuming we are successful then we may look at expanding or partnering with others for a similar setup. We may also look at expanding to other products with similar climate requirements (cocoa…?). For now, this is about exploring, understanding and appreciating coffee!
Some posts will go back in time to how I started, some will cover the greenhouse(s) we tested and ultimately built and others will be on coffee plant/bean specifics.
Please spend some time looking around and reach out with questions, concerns, comments!
